Just when people thought the knee-high sock trend was over, a shorter ankle version is set to settle in for summer.
Designers such as Anna Thomas and Trelise Cooper flaunted the new look on the runway at the David Jones spring/summer collections launch this week, paired with flirty 1950s-style skirts and mini dresses.
It was a case of anything goes, from towering stilettos and socks to platforms and socks and even strappy sandals with socks.
"From day wear to evening wear, it's a modern way to update your look," Courier Mail quoted Thomas, as saying.
"Especially in summer, with nice tanned legs, it's a quirky take on a boyish look," she said.

But Brisbane shoe designer Kylie Ryan said the new trend was not for everyone.
"I think it's a younger person's look," Ryan said.
"I admire anybody game enough to try and pull it off, but it has to be done well," she added.
