There are a lot of clothes for teenage girls out there making it pretty tricky to navigate all those trends! We’re here to help you decide which clothes to invest in and which to toss.
Shopping Guidelines
Here are a few guidelines to help you before you even go shopping:
- Take Stock
Taking stock of your wardrobe before you go shopping will help you decide what key pieces you need and what you don’t. You may have a ton of jeans, but only one functional skirt. Taking stock beforehand will help you decide what direction you’d like your closet to take.
- Research
Grab a few teen magazines and start researching. Look for the latest trends and incorporate one or two of the latest looks into your wardrobe. Remember to save the bulk of your money for the staples (like jeans, cute tops, etc.), but if you do have money leftover, feel free to splurge on a trend.
- The right fit
Taking your measurements and looking at a few of the current labels in your closet can help you save a ton of time at the mall. If you don’t know your measurements, simply grab a measuring tape (the soft, pliable kind) and measure your bust, waist, and inseam. It may not sound like much, but knowing your inseam, especially as it pertains to buying jeans, can save you oodles of time!
Clothes for Teenage Girls: The Trends
Without a doubt, we all know that trends come and go and then come back again! There are, however, a few trends that show up more frequently than others, and as such, you can feel pretty confident about investing in them. Additionally, many of the trends below look fresh, new and current; no matter the season.
- Metallics
Metallics are a great way to keep the clothes for teenage girls looking fresh. Try one metallic piece at a time, say with a gold metallic bag or shiny metallic shoes. This trend even extends to makeup, so feel free to experiment with the look.
- Animal Prints
From leopard to snakeskin, animal print always looks hot, current and just a little bit dangerous. Try the look with a leopard print belt, a little bit of fur (fake, or course!) on a coat collar, or with an eye-catching bag.
- Studs
Studs are back in a big way for fall 2007. This time around they are contained to accessories, like belts and bags.
- Cropped Jackets
Cropped jackets made a big splash this fall and with good reason! Most cold weather looks consist of bulky too-big jackets, causing the wearer to loose their “shape”. Cropped jackets, on the other hand provide just the right amount of warmth against the transitional fall weather, but stills shows off your figure to its best advantage. Additionally, because cropped jackets are much cheaper than traditional jackets, you can probably afford to buy more than one at a time in some of the hottest hues, like purple.
Picture Perfect
Along with the latest trends, it’s essential that you have a closet of go-to-looks that fit great, no matter the occasion. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to follow the “occasion” plan. This basically means that no matter what the occasion, you have something stellar to wear.
For example, your probably spend the bulk of your time at school and that probably means sporting the basic jeans/cute top look. One way to break up this fashion monotony is to take a look at special school occasions and then plan accordingly. Some of these occasions may include:
- A School Party
By this we mean a classroom party, not a school dance or the like. Here, especially where photographs might be taken, would be a great place to break out a metallic belt or a fur-trimmed collar.
- Trip Day
Going on school trips are a terrific, education and fun way to spend the day. This is also the perfect time to introduce a large studded bag or a functional cropped jacket. So cute!
- During School Assemblies
On days when you know there’ll be a school assembly, make a special effort to stand out in your clothes. Now would be a great time to loop a colorful scarf through your jeans belt holes or to don a cute hat.
